2007 GREAT NORTHERN TIER GEOCACHING TOURNAMENT -
RULES & GUIDELINES
All participants must sign a waiver of liability and an acknowledgement of the rules- especially #10 - at registration
1. Each team must register at the Wendell State Forest pavilion in order to be eligible for the prize drawings and to receive the event book.
2. Each team must be in line to submit their official scorecard by 3 PM on Sunday, August 19th in order to be eligible for prize tickets for the drawings. Scorecards must be turned in by 8pm, Saturday August 18th, and will be returned at 7am on Sunday August 19th. A scorecard for separate night caches will be handed out. Point deductions will be given for teams that are late.
3. Teams will receive 1 prize ticket for every 10 points that are authenticated by the official scorers on the official scorecard. You do not have to be present to win prizes, but some cannot be mailed so you must make prior arrangements for someone else to pick up your prize, or don’t try for that prize if you will not be present at the drawing. Those prizes will be clearly marked.
4. Teams may not interfere with another teams progress in the tournament! All stamps, punches and interpretive material must remain with the caches. Any team found altering or removing any of those items will be immediately disqualified from the tournament and asked to withdraw from the event.
5. Teams may have as many members as they like, but remember, your official scorecard must have the stamp, punch and/or correct answer to the questions to validate that you found the cache and receive points for that cache!
6. All teams will receive their event booklet with the complete list of geocache sites and their coordinates at 9am on Saturday August 18, 2007. If there is an excessive number of teams, the event booklets will be distributed to 25 teams at a time in 10 minute intervals. Those teams receiving their booklets later will have an equal amount of additional time to turn in their scorecards..
7. Recognition awards will be given to the team that finds the most caches in the allotted time, to the team that scores the most points, to the team made up of one individual who finds the most caches and to the team made up of one individual who scores the most points. Other recognition awards may be awarded as well.
8. All real caches will be registered with www.geocaching.com. These will count as “finds” for all those concerned. Most caches will become permanent caches as a result of this tournament and will be released on www.geocaching.com on Monday August 20, 2007.
9. All coordinates will be distributed in hard copy form and not electronically in order to level the playing field for all contestants.
10. All caches are located so there is minimal disturbance to the land or environment. Caches are located along marked trails or in easily found areas. There is NO NEED to bushwhack nor will you need to dismantle objects like stone walls to find a cache. PLEASE be sensitive to the property that you are on. We are guests of the property owners and we are expected to leave the property exactly as we find it. Teams are instructed to obey all posted signs with regards to hours of operation or accessibility on all of the properties where geocaches are located. Your failure to comply may result in fines or arrest for your team. Please be sensitive to the ecology of the area. No motorized off-road vehicles are allowed on hiking or biking trails or in the woods. Any cacher found in violation of this rule will be asked to leave the tournament.
11. Please respect the rules of the land you will be on. Please stay on marked trails and take out any trash that you bring in.
12.There is parking for each of the caches. Where necessary, some have separate coordinates for parking. Please park only in designated parking areas . Please be sure to park fully off the road and do not create a hazard.
13.For the boating caches, standard boating rules apply and life jackets must be worn. Please insure that your scorecards do not get wet.
14. Biking caches may be biked or hiked. Please wear a helmet. Please respect other trail users.
